about

Written and recorded during long summers spent at home in between semesters at college, Conor Lynch originally self-released his sophomore album ‘people don't think it be like it is but it do AND don’t’ online in 2019. Taking its title word for word from a piece of graffiti found on a frisbee golf course in his hometown, ‘people don’t think…’ finds Lynch drawing influence from the music of his childhood.

Growing up in rural Northern Michigan, Conor was surrounded by a significant folk music scene, whilst at home his parents introduced him to country music staples such as Gillian Welch, Neil Young and The Band. Up until the age of 15 however, Conor admits that he only ever wanted to listen to classic rock, finding folk and country music “too soft and corny”. But, after rediscovering the beauty of the acoustic guitar and newly energised by modern takes on the country/folk genre from contemporary musicians like Alex G and Big Thief, Conor found himself revisiting the music of his formative years to create what would eventually become ‘people don’t think…’.

Of the album, Conor states that the “instrumentation and style of these songs felt really natural to me, like this is the kind of music I’m best at writing”. Embracing traditional instruments such as fiddle, banjo and slide guitar alongside confident songwriting and mature lyrical themes, ‘people don’t think…’ has since gone on to receive cult-like status within the DIY community.

‘people don’t think…’ arrives onto physical format for the very first time via this limited edition cassette reissue, and comes complete with three previously unreleased bonus tracks and demos.
